Preparing for the Future of IndraDrive
In manufacturing, there’s a tendency to equate progress with replacement. Newer must be better, right? But when it comes to drive systems like IndraDrive, the smarter play is often to repair what works, especially if it can be done to original factory standards. In this episode of Evolution in Controls, Tim Wilson is joined by Tony Little, national product manager for electronics and robotics at Evolution, to take a look at the advantages of Rexroth-authorized IndraDrive service. From diagnostics and repair to full remanufacturing and retrofit options, there’s more than one way to stay in motion without starting from scratch.
IndraDrive is the current available series of drives by Rexroth, in production since the early 2000s. However, on January 1 of 2026, IndraDrive will enter the “service” status of its life time, which means it’s time for customers who actively use IndraDrive to proactively identify what servicing their drives may require in the next decade. The services available are repair, remanufacturing, or retrofitting.
Repair means focusing on a single issue of the drive to renew its performance. It’s usually a quick and easy process, especially since Rexroth has all the tools, components, and resources necessary to make these repairs efficiently and successfully. Remanufacturing focuses on stripping down the IndraDrive, fixing multiple points of failure, and bringing it back to factory specs. Finally, the last solution available is retrofitting, where an older component is replaced with a newer one, and Rexroth assists customers in ensuring all technology, despite age, can function and communicate together. Fortunately, IndraDrive is not yet at the stage where retrofitting is a necessity.
All IndraDrive services are completed at a Bosch Rexroth Certified Repair Center, where they have the right specs, equipment, and test benches to guarantee an accurate repair or reman.
