Evolution’s Dedicated Group for All Things Controls
When we think about automation, it’s easy to picture the moving parts—the robots, the conveyors, the hydraulic systems. But behind that motion is something less visible but just as critical: the intelligent controls that tell it all what to do. Industrial control systems are crucial for timing, safety, precision, and coordination. Whether it’s a split-second adjustment or a full process overhaul, controls are what turn mechanical systems into smart automation. This crucial role in automation is why Evolution Motion Solutions has a dedicated solution group for Industrial Controls, which focuses entirely on designing and programming the systems that bring automation to life, from PLCs and HMIs to safety, drive, and I/O architectures. In this episode of Evolution in Controls, host Tim Wilson talks with John Jackson, Business Development Manager at Evolution, about the Industrial Controls solution group and how it helps customers manage complexity, optimize performance, and build future-ready systems.
The Industrial Controls team focuses on a wide range of projects, from small ones that can be completed within a few weeks to four-year-long retrofits of entire assembly lines. The process begins with the Motioneers, another specialized solution group, who conceptualize specific parts of the controls project. Once they’ve discovered a solution, a proposal is generated, and the hardware and software teams step up to the plate. Once the project scope is complete, the software team will visit the customer to provide start-up and production support.
While the process sounds simple, and the team certainly makes it so for customers, a lot goes on behind the scenes. The Auburn Hills, MI, warehouse holds a massive panel build operation where panels are designed and built from the ground up, then thoroughly tested. Retrofits, an Industrial Controls specialty, can also be complicated, as they often come with many risks. The controls team assesses these risks at every angle and applies the best-fit solution for the customer and their application.
The Industrial Controls team isn’t limited to Michigan or retrofits, though. It’s currently leading many new projects for the oil and gas industry in southern U.S. states, an industry whose goal is to automate hazardous tasks and increase safety for workers. Controls are a necessary component in every system, and with decades of experience, this solution group will continue leading the way in implementing industrial controls across the country.
