A Compact Line for Balanced Linear Motion
In linear motion, precision matters, but so does practicality. Not every application needs microns of accuracy or ultra-tight tolerances. Sometimes, the best solution is one that balances performance with simplicity, cost, and speed. That simple recognition is the driving idea behind Bosch Rexroth’s new product line of linear ball rail. In this episode of Evolution in Controls, Tim Wilson is joined by Rexroth’s Jon Richards, product manager for linear guides, and Clint Hayes, national channel partner manager for linear motion technologies. Together, they break down what the ball rail systems compact line (BSCL) is, what sets it apart from the existing BSHP line, and why it’s an obvious choice in the linear motion market.
Rexroth found that the market needed a mid-level ball rail system: all other ranges seemed to be covered, except the middle ground. With their ball rail systems high precision (BSHP) product line already well-established, the addition of the BSCL compact line gives customers a new level of flexibility, making it easier to match the right rail to the right job. For applications that don’t require the high precision of the BSHP line, the BSCL line provides the same features and benefits, including a similar look and feel, long travel life, 5 km of lubed travel distance, and easy customization and configuration, without a significant focus on precision or chamfering.
The BSCL provides all standard runner block offerings and sizes 15 to 45 in 4 meter sticks, making them perfectly suited for industries like general transport, material handling, intralogistics, pick and place applications, packaging, and machine tooling. Rexroth even provides online tools for sizing and calculating, selecting products, and downloading CAD drawings and manuals.
In the future, Jon and Clint see widespread adoption of the BSCL line as an entry point for transitioning from older technology to higher-performing systems; its mid-grade performance makes it easier to transition to than its BSHP counterpart, which focuses on high precision.
